WCA Euro 2020 in the Netherlands!

It’s final: the Netherlands will host the WCA European Championship 2020!

Bob Burton, executive director and chair of the board of the World Cube Association: “It is with great excitement that we announce that the WCA European Championship 2020 will take place in Almere, the Netherlands. The organization team submitted a professional and thorough application demonstrating that they are well prepared to take on the task of organizing the championship. The experienced organization team, quality of the venue and exciting city promise to provide competitors with a wonderful experience and an enjoyable competition. We look forward to working seeing what the team can accomplish over the next year!”

Nik Smit, director of Almere City Marketing, is excited that WCA Euro 2020 will be in the Topsportcentrum in Almere. “We are looking forward to welcoming the many cubers and their families. We have much in common. As a city, Almere is only 43 years old; the city was born around the same time as the Rubik’s Cube. Both city and cube are a result of smart thinking and innovation, and both of us became world news. We are delighted to open Almere to the cubing community!”

Mats Valk is the reigning European champion on the 3x3x3, so he will defend his title in his own country. Mats: “We got it! Very happy that the Netherlands will organize the European Championship 2020 and to host all of you in one of the most beautiful countries in the world! I have a lot of confidence this will be an awesome competition due to the amazing staff team ready and I am sure you will enjoy spending some time in the Netherlands. Hope to see you all next summer!”
